Unity or a city in turmoil?

Two events coming up at Camden Local Studies Centre….

Actor and director Harry Landis gives  a talk on the Camden Unity Theatre, 7.15pm on 5th April. Unity was formed in the 1930s from the Workers’ Theatre Movement. A vital campaigner against fascism in the depression years it was the first to put on a Bertolt Brecht play in Britain. Originally it was based in Britannia St, later moving to Goldington St, Somers Town. Unity was part of the careers of many houshold name actors – Michael Gambon, Michael Redgrave, Bob Hoskins, Vida Hope and Warren Mitchell amongst them, as well as Landis himself.

Then at same time on 12th April, ‘London – A City in Turmoil’ is a talk by Nick Dobson, which he describes as ‘a story of a city where riot and disorder lurk just under the surface throughout history’. The talk marks the start of the the exhibition ‘Riots in Camden’ that runs from 12th Aptil to 11th June.
